Penguins HD Radio on PensMobile App

In case you hadn’t heard, Penguins HD Radio is now available on the Android and Blackberry version of the PensMobile application by Yinzcam. iPhone version coming soon, but there’s obviously a longer wait for approval through the Apple App Store so watch for that in the coming weeks.

This runs on both 3G and WiFi and streams 24/7.  Nice way to listen to a certain hall-of-fame radio announcer while you’re sitting in your seats.

Android users — we’d appreciate any feedback on good/bad experiences.  Obviously with the different devices running Android your mileage may vary.  We’re eager to hear how the experience is going for you as we continue to tweak the Android stream for greater stability.

Holiday Open: Better Video

A better angle of the holiday open.  Three cheers to Dori Minnis, Steve Finerty, and Doug Sprowls for a great job.  Here’s a link.

From The Archives

Cleaning out a bunch of old DVCam tapes and have run across a bunch of videos I haven’t seen in a long time.

Back in the day we used to do tons of these.  I miss them.

The guy at the end, for those of you that weren’t on the Pre-Crosby Train, was a guy we internally called “Master P”. Student rusher that used to dance like that at every game.

Pens Holiday Open

Game presentation crew kicked out their holiday open on Monday against the New Jersey Devils.  Great stuff.  First time that they tied all four displays together in video sync, and it looked great

Pumped to see this because we knew that we had the capability, just hadn’t had the opportunity to see it in action.  Already imagining the possibilities and cool executions we’ll see in the coming months.

Took the Nikon D3100 DSLR out to record video.  The spot I had originally scouted picked out to shoot was occupied once I got there, so I had to scramble to find another space. As a result, I ended up in heavy auto mode (other than focus) so I wasn’t really happy with the end result.  I’m going to try next home with the the Canon 7D, and take a monopod with me.

Apologies for the shot angle changing, shake, etc…but you should be able to get the picture with video below.  Great job to Dori, Steve, and Doug.  Video doesn’t do it justice. Click through for HD

Good Point

Just read this quick little article from Vincent Thomas at espn.com.

I’ve felt the same way as him many times over the years.  You can’t help not to in this business.  Not just in our arena, but any sporting event I attend with a big scoreboard.

We always hear the vocal minority, no doubt.  Some are haters. On the other hand, some bring up very good points at times.  Some stuff is downright annoying, and when that happens the majority of the crowd lets you know it.

But for the most part, people enjoy it.  It’s a reprieve from the intensity on the field.  It’s the same reason that rock stars sing ballads.  You can’t stay at that super high level the entire night.  You need a breather.

Could I live a happy life never seeing a kiss cam or similar element ever again?  Sure thing.  But I also realize there are people that enjoy it, and if it adds to their very expensive experience, so be it.
