Tampa Bay With On-Ice Projection

Nice little feature here on the on-ice projection being used at the St. Pete Times Forum.

While we ended up buying our projectors, we did use Dangers, Inc for the first home opener out of the lockout for some still imagery.

Personally, I love the on-ice stuff, although it can definitely be a burden on the creative team if you are making changes every night (which we did at the Penguins). The folks in the low seats miss out a bit on the total experience, but from lower-middle level up it’s great.

Only $3001 For A Boat Anchor

It takes news of the Civic Arena scoreboard to break me out of my allergy-induced hiatus.

Actually this is not a White Way video board, it’s a 10mm Smartvision/Saco. And if you happen to buy it, make sure you pick up the controller up in the video control room. It would be helpful to have if you’d like to someday see live video on it.

How do I feel about this board?  Nostalgic?  Actually, this is how I feel about that particular screen.  If I had money to burn, I’d buy it myself and just film 100 versions of me and the IBEW Local #5 electricians destroying it.

Sick Setup For UFC 129 At Rogers Centre

Slow blog week for me. That whole “have to earn a living thing” reared it’s ugly head again.

Came across the crazy setup for UFC 129 at Rogers Centre in Toronto posted by someone from SB Nation that was in there early. Pretty inspiring to see how they make the transition from arenas to a stadium.

Can also find a nice behind the scenes video on ufc.com and a video blog of from Dana White.

Sick setup. Imagine it’s crazy there.

Original Boys Of Winter Commercial

Somebody posted an old Penguins video (The Pensblog?) the other day, and I couldn’t get this out of my head. Happened to be moving stuff around on hard drives this morning and came across it.

Enjoy.

Penguins Show You How To Use Web Video

These two videos have already made the rounds on Twitter, and most Penguins fans have probably already seen them.

But I just wanted to take the time to say that THIS is how sports teams should use video.

Two Great Religious Themed Videos

The first is from Jewish website aish.com that asks, “What If Moses had Facebook”.  Lots of small little details hidden in there, and it’s a really fun watch.

Penguins Lead NHL Local TV Ratings Again

From the Pittsburgh Business Times:

For at least the fourth consecutive season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are the kings of the NHL’s local TV ratings, as Pens games on ROOT Sports this season averaged the league’s highest rating of 8.68.

The Penguins also have attracted the NHL’s largest average audience, at 101,000 homes per game, even though Pittsburgh is the league’s 22nd largest market.
